Adhesives For Mechanical Engineering Applications
By using adhesives it is possible to save weight and therefore energy. Because of this, adhesives are continually tested in fields which were unimaginable a few years ago. In these fields they would have been exposed to very specific and usually high mechanical stress - like in mechanical engineering and plant construction.
Metal processing has been the exclusive domain of welding and riveting for many years. Easy processing, durable strength, saving of weight and energy, as well as aesthetics, have convinced design engineers to use adhesives in this field. The classic product groups for metal processing are two-part epoxy resins and anaerobic curing methacylates. Recent developments include two-part polyurethanes.
