Each car built today contains over 15Kgs of adhesive. While the majority of these are used as structural adhesives in the frame of the car, specialist adhesive applications include steering and braking sensors, air-bag sensors, driver aids such as rear & side-viewing cameras, and magnet-bonding for automatic transmissions.
Adhesives used in automotive production provide:
Airbag Sensor Sealing
Airbag Sensor Sealing: Airbag sensors are enclosed in plastic to provide resistance to oil, fuel and various solvents. The sensors, usually made from PBT, need to be sealed against these same media, and because of the large volumes manufactured, a fast-curing adhesive is required. DELO-KATIOBOND is the material-of-choice as it meets all these requirements, as well as providing excellent adhesion.
Camera-based driver assistance systems are rapidly filtering down from top-of-the-range automobiles to more family-orientated vehicles. In addition, quality and reliability demands are also increasing, in terms of lens structures and pixel density. DELO’s family of modified-epoxy mCD adhesives offers significant benefits of low curing temperatures at fast curing speeds, and excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrate materials.
